Biochar is a form of charcoal used in agriculture, landscaping, and environmental remediation that is produced through a carbon sequestering process known as pyrolysis, a low-oxygen fire that produces pure carbon predominantly.
Biochar, when used as a soil amendment, improves soil pH, cation exchange capacity, water retention, drainage, and increases beneficial microbe populations in the soil by 20-200%.
Raw biochar absorbs nutrients and minerals through molecular bonds. This makes raw biochar effective as a soil amendment and environmental remediation tool. Raw biochar can be "charged" or inoculated with organic fertilizers; such as worm castings or blood and bone meal for nitrogen and phosphorus, to improve specific soil conditions following soil test analysis. We also offer "charged" or inoculated blends of biochar. Watch for new products soon.
Raw biochar can also be added to livestock feed to remove toxins from the animals and fertilize the pasture. Once the biochar is excreted by the animals, it is then trampled into the soil with their nitrogenous waste; fertilizing the pasture after the detoxification process. |
